research on safe sex

I looked at serval artist to help me find inspiration for developing samples and ideas.

Cos Ahmet is a texstyles artist who values making art purely by hand. he created an (untiled) tapestry weave in 2016. im drawn to the tapestry because he has tangled the red yarn up to created this mangled curled pattern. this pieces feels caotic to me. I feel taking inspiration from the lines created by the yarn could represent negativity we want to contain or protect are selfs from.

2D artist Ashley bandson, has used photography of women and created this vein/root patten that travels from her female figures in her art. having children, sperm STDs in mind the idea of something traveling without the use of a condom resenates with my theme of protection. I could translate this idea by having a pattern or yarn similar to Cos Ahmet contained inside a condom to show that the latex protects. I took red yarn and heat pressed it inside two sheets of plastic, then I embroidered curled root like patterns similar to both artist on top. looking at the final outcome of the sample I feel I created something that has trapped the chaos. and physically stopped the yarn from touching the skin if somebody were to wear it.

in contrast, this sample feels very cushioned and supportive. and the test piece is mainly red so it could resemble flesh or the inside of a womb. in the womb we feel protected and safe. in fact according cycolegist Freud when a baby first enters the world that is first traumatic experience a harman will go through. in womb we have unlimited warmth unlimited food were not even having to breath for are life. artist, Holly Rozier created a piece called Bleeding Scabby Blob, 2013. in the pieces there is a sculpture that resembles a Virginia and long string of red yarn and other sting like materials are pouring out. what protects us from bleeding? are skin keeps eyeing contained, in my earlier research I was looking at a piece by Kikki Smith called Hard Soft Bodies I expressed the idea of disguising parts of are selfs as a way of protecting. my skin outer layer idea im exploring could be merged with idea of containing sperm, STDs and keeping are bodies intact throughout skin. Looking at the womb and creating a safe space worm fuzzy space through soft textures and installation. overall my vague idea is almost like a bubble of force field that is hard and protective on the outside and is soft and worm on the inside. its a disguise. I want to create a survey and figure out what textures and feelings make people feel protected.
